History of the Faculty of Social Sciences

The Faculty of Social Sciences was established within the framework of Parwan 
University with the aim of educating and training young professionals to serve 
the Afghanistan society. Initially, the Faculty operated as a department under the
 Faculty of Education. However, as a result of the university's efforts, it was separated 
from the Faculty of Education in 2013 and was established as an independent faculty named
 "Faculty of Social Sciences" with the departments of 
History, Geography, and Islamic Education. Later in 2013, the department of 
Sociology was also established. Each year, hundreds of skilled professionals
 graduate from this faculty and contribute to serving the society. In 2018, the
 department of Islamic Education shifted and became a separate faculty under the
 name of Islamic Studies. Currently, the Faculty of Social Sciences operates with
 three departments, which are General History, Geography, and Sociology and is
 recognized as one of the active faculties among the ten faculties at Parwan
 University. The faculty operates from an independent building and has made
 significant contributions in the field of social sciences in recent years. The
 faculty has 22 academic staff members, including two doctors, five Ph.D.
 candidates, 15 master's degree holders, one teaching, and executive manager, and
 four unskilled service staff members involved in the maintenance of the faculty.

The Faculty of Social Sciences aims to foster a group of expert and committed
professionals in the field of social sciences, with the help of a highly qualified
and young team of staff including doctors and master's degree holders. This will
be achieved by providing high-quality education services and engaging in
scientific activities that adhere to international standards.

Main Goals of the Faculty:
A. Academic Goals:
The Faculty of Social Sciences aims to train professional and expert staff in the three fields of general history, sociology, and geography at the bachelor's level, and prepare them to serve society.

 
B. Objectives related to Research:
The administration and lecturers of the Faculty of Social Sciences are committed to conducting scientific and academic research in the field of social sciences and related issues. They aim to use their research findings to solve social problems and make a meaningful contribution to society in addition to teaching. The Faculty plans to launch scientific-applied research and disseminate their scientific achievements by publishing them in national and international journals.

 
Related goals to the role of the faculty in society
This faculty educates and develops professional staff with religious values, who are committed to national interests in the fields of sociology, geography, and history. Graduates are equipped to fulfill the human resource requirements for education and government, private and other institutions. National and international organizations contribute to the development and progress of society.

 
The current situation 
The Faculty of Social Sciences is one of the most active faculties at Parwan University. Over the past three years, it has been ranked first in terms of administrative, teaching, and scientific activities during annual evaluations at the university. This faculty comprises three departments: History, Geography, and Sociology.

Future Plans and Programs

  1. We plan on hiring more academic staff members to meet the teaching requirements of our students.
  2. We are striving to create a master's program.
  3. We intend to establish new departments under the undergraduate course, such as Tourism and Archaeology.
  4. We will introduce our professors to different capacity building programs.
  5. Our professors are compiling more textbooks.
  6. We will equip the faculty library with necessary resources.
  7. We will activate the practical research laboratory of the Department of Geography.
  8. We aim to sign memorandums of cooperation with relevant external institutions.

Assistant Professor Sanatullah Froton is the son of Abdul Jalil and was born in 1988 in the Chah-E-Ab district of Takhar province. He obtained his Bachelor's degree from Hamidi Shahid High School in his hometown and completed his education in General History at Kabul Education University in 2011.

In 2012, he joined the academic staff of the History Department at Parwan University. He later served as the Head of the History Department in 2013 while continuing teaching and research activities. In 2014, Assistant Professor Sanatullah Frotan was awarded a state scholarship by Kazakhstan and pursued a master's degree in World History from the Department of History, Faculty of History, Archeology, and Ethnography at National University of Kazakhstan, Al-Farabi. He successfully completed his master's program in 2017 and returned to Parwan University to continue teaching in the field of history.

Assistant Professor Sanatullah Frotan has also contributed to the administrative functions of Parwan University. Due to his excellent skills and capabilities, he was appointed as the Head of the Faculty of Social Sciences in 2019, following approval from the Ministry of Higher Education. He has been serving in this capacity until now.

In addition to his administrative and teaching roles, Assistant Professor Sanatullah Frotan has published over 15 research works and scholarly articles in both national and international journals.

Introduction of the Deputy Position in the Faculty.

As per Article 25 of the Ministry of Higher Education Law, the deputy of the faculty is appointed from among the academic staff based on the proposal of the dean of the faculty, approval by the president of the educational institution, and the competent authority.The deputy of the faculty is responsible for the fulfillment of the duties assigned to the dean of the faculty. In the absence of the Dean of the Faculty, the deputy is responsible for overseeing administrative affairs.

 

Short Biography of Assistant Professor Sayed Habibullah Radmanesh

Assistant Professor Sayed Habibullah Radmanesh, son of Sayed sekandar, was born in 1987 in Karizak village, Nahur district, Ghazni province. His academic journey began during the devastating civil wars in the country. He completed his elementary education at the Shahid Hassan Shah Garmak School and then participated in the Khwat High School in Nawur district. He successfully completed his secondary education with honors at Khwat High School after passing the nationwide entrance exam in 2007, he was admitted to the Faculty of Social Sciences at Kabul Education University.

 

He completed his Bachelor's degree in Geography at the Faculty of Social Sciences from 2008 to 2011 with excellent grades. He benefited from prominent professors such as Professor Mir Haroon Ahmadi, Professor Abdul Qadir Royan, and Professor Mohammad Osman Aman.

In the spring of 2012, he applied for a teaching position at Parwan University in the Ministry of Higher Education of Afghanistan. After successfully passing the competitive exam with high score, he was officially appointed as a lecturer in the Geography Department, Social Science Faculty of Parwan University on August 14, 2012, by the Ministry of Higher Education.

In 2017, Mr. Sayed Habibullah Radmanesh obtained a scholarship from the Ministry of Higher Education to pursue his Master's degree in Political Geography in the Islamic Republic of Iran. He completed his Master's degree with honors at the University of Tehran. During his two-year staying in Iran, he participated in various national and international seminars and conferences about Afghanistan and Middle East. He also obtained a certificate in Scientific Writing Workshop from UNESCO.

 

With his peace-loving and patriotic spirit, Professor Sayed Habibullah Radmanesh became an ambassador for peace in Afghanistan after attending a one-month peace seminar organized by the World Peace Federation in 2008.

In 2008, Professor Sayed Habibullah Radmanesh, along with some like-minded friends, founded the Cultural and Social Etemad Organization. He was also a member of the editorial board of the Etemad bi-weekly newspaper. He has published several articles in collaboration with many scientific associations, including:

  • A glance at the population issue in Afghanistan
  • The role of geographical factors in the national power structure of Afghanistan
  • Elections and their challenges in Afghanistan
  • Water management in Afghanistan with a focus on the Kamal Khan Dam.

 
The History of Sociology Department

 
The Department of Sociology, which is one of the subgroups of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Parwan University, was established in 2013. Although this department is a recent added to Parwan University, the formal education of sociology in other universities of the country, particularly at Kabul University, dates back several decades.
This department offers undergraduate education in sociology at Parwan University. The course syllabus and materials focus on the international curriculum as well as the needs of our society. The minimum credit hours required for graduation are 136, whereas the maximum limit is 157 credit hours of which 93 are specialized, 24 are basic, and the remainder are general and elective courses. The teaching approach in this department is student-centered and encourages active learning where students participate in class discussions and activities alongside professors.
The Department of Sociology currently employs 5 academic staff positions. Among them, one holds a doctorate degree, and the other three hold a master's degree.

The Department of Sociology aims to become one of the six best departments at the university level within the next five years by providing and conducting scientific, research, and cultural activities that are based on Islamic values and social knowledge.

1. Basic familiarity with the most important and valid social and sociological ideas that will lead to the formation of the student's intellectual system;

Background of the History Department:
The Department of History at Parwan University has long historical background. It was initially established under the title of Teacher Training Institute and functioned under the Higher Education Institute (1382 AH) until it became a constituent department of Parwan University's Faculty of Education. When the Faculty of Social Sciences was established as an independent faculty in 1393 AH, the Department of History came under its purview. 
The department offers undergraduate education in two modalities: daily, in-service, and night. Recently, the department has prepared a comparative curriculum in coordination with the history departments of other universities within the country, measuring up to national and international standards. Subject to approval from the respected official at the Ministry of Higher Education, this curriculum will soon be implemented.

Biography of the head of the history department

Teaching Assistant Mohammad Aref Sharifi, the son of Gholam Hassan, was born in 1366 AH. It is located in the village of Mohajerin, Jaghori district, Ghazni province. The mentioned person studied at Salehi Zirak High School in 1385 AH. He is finished with it.

Teaching Assistant Sharifi received his bachelor's degree in 1390 AH. He received his degree in history from the Faculty of Social Sciences - Kabul University of Education. It is worth mentioning that Mr. Sharifi since 1392 AH. So far, he has been working as a professor in the Department of History of the Faculty of Social Sciences - Parwan State University. He obtained his master's degree in the field of Iranian Islamic history from the Faculty of Language and Literature of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad in 2019.

History of the Geography Department:

The Department of Geography is one of the oldest departments within the scientific and academic institution of Parvan University. Until 1391 AH, it was part of the History and Geography Department of Parvan Higher Education Institute. From 1391 AH onwards, it became an independent department, broadening its academic scope. In 2013, six social science courses, including geography, history, and sociology, were separated from the Education and Training faculty and established as an independent course with the aforementioned subjects. The Department of Geography has been the most active and important department in Parwan University since then. It offers day and night sections and has graduated dozens of educated young people with a national and Islamic spirit, serving society.

While the curriculum of the Department of Geography used to align with the curriculum of Education and Training at Kabul University, it began using the curriculum and vocabulary of the Geology Faculty of Kabul University in 2012. It is worth mentioning that the new curriculum of this department has been designed to include social science subjects and vocabulary.

The Department of Geography is responsible for offering education and training in the field of geography up to the Ph.D. level, and its course materials and content are in line with the standards of regional universities in the field of geological geography. The course requires a minimum of 136 and a maximum of 157 credits, including specialized, basic, inclusive, and optional subjects. The Department of Geography has six academic staff members holding doctoral and master's degrees and has nearly 200 students.

1. To provide students with a basic understanding of geography science, including its concepts, styles, and methods.

4. To create and strengthen logical and scientific analytical abilities in both professional and social affairs.

5. To train educational and scientific staff required by the countries scientific and research centers in the specialized and professional fields of geography.

6. To expand the knowledge of the humanities and natural sciences in the field of geography and the interrelationship of these sciences and their effects on social life.

7. To strengthen problem-solving skills and increase knowledge in personal and social life.

8. To train human-loving, patriotic, and nature-loving cadres committed to Islamic, national, and patriotic values.

9. To create a platform for acquiring knowledge and conducting theoretical and practical research in geography.

Biography of Mullajan Rahmani head of Geography department

I am the son of Abdul Manan and Ledit Sayed Rahman, who was born in 1987 in a religious and Knowledge love family in Mullakhil- village the Qomchaq valley the Siah Gard-e-Ghorband district of Parwan province, after completing the age of seven, he entered Abdul Bashir Shahid High School in the village where he completed his primary and secondary school. he has been completed the high school  in Abdul Fatah Shaheed Qomchaq, He also taught religious sciences formally and informally before ulama, imams of mosques and imam azam school located in Qalainu-Qemchaq village. In 2005, Hash participated in the competitive kankor exam, which won the highest score in the field of geography of the Faculty of Social Sciences of Jowzjan University, which graduated from that university in 2009 to a high degree with 93% of the average cadre grades. In 2010, he was appointed as Lecturer of social sciences department of Teacher Training in Bagram district, which for three years until the end of 2012, he served dozens of students in the in-service and out-of-service department of that educational institution who did not hesitate to make any round-the-clock efforts. At the end of 2012, Hash competed in a cadre position in the field of geography the Faculty of Social Sciences of Parwan University, which, thanks to God, succeeded in this test and was appointed as a teacher of this academic and scientific institution, which so far has been in this sacred duty. In 2017, I entered Iran with a large number of Afghan professors on scholarships to continue their studies in the field of political geography of Isfahan-Iran University, where I graduated with 94% of the average grades and high degrees from that university in 2019. I have a master's degree and my academic rank. In addition to teaching, he has also done administrative work as deputy of social sciences faculty for two years and now as head of geography department of social sciences faculty of Parwan University, participated in various seminars and workshops. In the field of research and scientific work, I have not benefited from the line of research caravan, which i have done various researches, including dozens of articles more than ten articles in scientific and research journals inside the country, all of which have been published and about a few articles are being published.
